Yes, the title says that I read the best eBook on marketing, for me it’s the best because it answered my most pressing issue.

So, what was my most pressing issue? Understanding myself as a marketer online. Before I reveal what I learned about myself, I must explain why I enjoyed reading eBooks.

When the e-readers were being introduced in the marketplace, I felt there was no need for them in my life. I thought, How could one read without touching a page or hearing the sound of the pages turn? This sounds kind of sentimental, but these are my true feelings about reading books. It was more of an experience for me, even though I read to gain information and for entertainment. I love reading!

I began to enjoy reading eBooks when my husband bought me a Kindle Fire for my birthday in 2011. He happened to buy it around the same time I had begun to explore blogging. Therefore, having the Kindle Fire allowed me to research e-books related to blogging, download them, and read them immediately. I gained a wealth of knowledge as I started my blogging and online marketing journey. However there is one book that has stood out from every book I read in regards to these subjects. The book is called The Artful Marketer: A Fundamental Business Guide for Creative Entrepreneurs by Dr. Minette Riordian.

I Got Results from Reading this Book

This book spoke to me as an author and blogger. I already know that I am a creative person. But reading this book helped me to understand the creativity in my entrepreneurial journey. That’s the big reveal. I am a creative entrepreneur!

It’s a big deal to me because I struggled to understand online marketing for 2-3 years. I had to learn new terms such as traffic, CTR, hashtag, and much more. Not to mention Facebook Ads, Google Adwords, and Adsense. I attempted to follow every step I read–becoming frustrated with the lack of real results. Have you ever been frustrated by reading eBooks and not getting the results as promised? There have been very few eBooks that have helped me as an online entrepreneur, the Artful Marketer is one of them.

Reading her book was confirmation to a vow I made to myself before I began the Desk of Katina Davenport. I made a promise to myself that I would be creative in my marketing strategy. I didn’t know exactly how to do that. Since, I am a very visual person I enjoyed the indepth teaching and prompts that helped me engage with the content. For example, in one section Dr. Minette Riordian demonstrates how to create a visual business plan. This is not a vision board. The best way to describe it is like looking into the core of who you are first then building a business plan, starting with WHY.

While reading the book I felt as if I was on a one-on-one coaching call with a high level business trainer. I know that sounds extreme, but there was a clear sense of what to do next. So, if you are a creative entrepreneur, like me, you are identified in the book as:

  • Someone who feels as if their creative work is the core of who they are.
  • Someone who is a blogger, artist, coach, speaker, writer, or anyone that views their work as artistic.
  • Someone who is full of ideas, but don’t know exactly how to market those ideas to generate income.
  • Someone who is passionate.
  • Someone who has the ability to see connections that others don’t see.
  • Someone who wants to market their products or services without being pushy.
  • Someone who might struggle with the financial end of running a business.
  • Someone who would rather go with the flow than stick to a strict schedule.

The list is longer, but you should read the book to find all of the other characteristics.

I identified with majority of the traits outlined in her book. After participating with the book–actively downloading the supplemental material, journaling, and coming up with a solid marketing strategy, I can say that I have a solid plan in place for every aspect of my blog. Also, I have a solid plan in place for what will take place outside of my blogs i.e. local workshops and seminars.

If you find yourself relating to any of the traits I listed, I recommend that you purchase The Artful Marketer and go through the steps that are taught. You won’t be disappointed.

      Oh that is so great! The book is great. I felt like I had a one on one coaching session. I emailed her to let her know how much I loved the book. She replied back the next day very touched by my great experience with the book.
