New blogger tips. Tips for new bloggers. What to concentrate on first.

So….you just started a new blog.

You’re a new blogger.

You’re ready to get started on writing your content.

You have even heard of the potential money you can make while blogging.

The truth about blogging is there are so many things to do. It’s like running a business and being the bead of the marketing department, customer service, and IT department.

Your first few steps in blogging are crucial to your success and longevity.

In this post, I want to share with you new blogger tips. Thee are the 5 things you should be concentrating on (in my opinion)

1. Research Your Ideal Reader

The first thing you will want to do after setting up your blog is to get a sense of what people might be looking for in terms of content.

This means knowing the:

  • Gender
  • Age
  • Do they have children?
  • Do they work?
  • Marital status
  • Personal interests

You can can create any kind of demographics that you can think of to find a specific type of reader.

2. Format Your Blog Posts

After blogging for 5 years I have found there is a format to creating their blog posts. Following a consistent format will help readers navigate your content.

Start with a powerful opening sentence to grab your readers attention. This will get them to read more of your content. Make the statement identifiable with a pain point or an experience they might relate to.

Take the opening statement in this post as an example so….you just started a new blog. I’m speaking to new bloggers. I believe that new bloggers will want to see exactly what the post is about by reading the next few lines.

Next, you should keep paragraphs short whenever possible. No more than 2 or 3 sentences, just so there will not be a lot of text.

Use bulleted lists whenever possible to convey your ideas in a subheading.

Use H1 and H2 subheadings to break up information or subjects.

Use photos, infographics, and video to help readers understand more about your content.

There will always be variations of a format but this is a good way to start.

3. Increase Your Knowledge of Social Media Marketing as a New Blogger

Before we begin this section you might want to see my blog post on understanding the culture of social media. This can help you understand which platform is right for you and your blog.

Social media will be your first source of traffic. I recommend starting with Pinterest. It is a like a search engine, marketing platform, and social sharing site rolled into one.

Many bloggers are getting a great deal of traffic using Pinterest.

4. Email Marketing as a New Blogger

Start thinking about staying in contact with people that read your blog. Don’t worry if you don’t know anything about email marketing.

I know of an email service that you can use to help build your email list.

They will teach you everything. It’s called GetResponse and you can use them free for 30 days.

5. Get Ideas for Content and Fill up Your Content Calendar

One of the exciting parts of blogging is actually blogging. That means finding ways to generate ideas. Here is a few ideas on how you can find topics to blog about:

  • Create to list or top 10 posts.
  • Create reading roundups for the week.
  • Create posts based on the trends in your niche. You can always see what is trending on Google Trends.
  • Create a case study.
  • Answer questions you see on blog posts or websites in your niche.
