To be or not to be, that is the question. ~ William Shakespeare, Hamlet

Blogging or becoming a blogger is a fast growing trend.

Many have written blog posts shouting that blogging is dead.

It is very much alive, and many want to know more about it.

As bloggers, we have our own unique culture. We understand the frustrations of becoming the successful blogger we envision. The success sometimes seem fleeting or nearly unattainable but we keep going. And those looking at us from the outside are wondering why in the heck would we work for free in the beginning.

Life as a blogger becomes a continual race to be noticed. The more exposure we are able to get, the more traffic we will receive. And that will lead to more opportunities for income (we hope).

I started the Desk of Katina Davenport with the notion of showing people how to start a blog. Everyone wants to know how to start one, right?

Yes and no.

I’ve had many friends and family ask me how to start a blog. Not one of them have been consistent bloggers. Situations get in the way of them continuing, but mostly there was something within holding them back. I know because they told me.

So that post was based on my observation on how to become a successful blogger.

Today, this post explains why How to Become a Blogger and Stay a Blogger became a popular post from my site and how you can create similar content.

About My Most Popular Post

My post on How to Become a Blogger and Stay a Blogger has garnered over 400 shares on Pinterest to date. It is the post that brings me the most traffic so far. This blog post will even be featured on a popular blog in July.

Recently, I decided to analyze this piece of writing. It is not one of my pillar post nor is it a foundational writings here. However, due to it’s popularity I will now make this a pillar post and build other content around it.

I realized the reason this post became so popular is because of the keyword “become”. Readers want to know how to become the person they hear so much about on different channels.

Let me explain.

Blogging is Everywhere

Blogging is everywhere. I literally hear the word “blogger” on TV everyday when I am watching the news and on different television shows.

For example, one of the local news stations in Detroit feature bloggers to help them with gift guides during certain seasons. They also bring them on to help give expert tips in their niche. I recently listened to a local mom blogger share her tips for gifting graduates.

The word “blogger” came up in the show Empire as one of the main characters was going to be interviewed by a blogger who was also an investigative reporter.

Therefore, if I am hearing this word more frequently, there is a good chance others are hearing it too and want to know more about becoming a blogger.

Writing Content to Help Someone Become Something

Now that I know people are searching out information on how to become something, I can structure blog posts that get to heart of working towards a specific goal.

I believe the post I mentioned earlier resonated with so many is because it offered more than the same blogging advice. It helped readers step into the role of becoming a blogger by dealing with some of the struggles and some of the emotional aspects of blogging.

Two sections on that post mentioned working through fears and making connections with other bloggers.

It also offered a behind the scene look into what it is like to be a blogger as I mentioned some of the tasks that bloggers perform.

Show YOUR Readers How to Become Something

Showing your readers how to become something is a great content strategy that will allow you to create your most useful posts.

You can provide all the tools and how to posts in the world but if a reader is struggling with an issue that is preventing them from implementing your steps they will never achieve optimal results. They might feel intimidated by getting started or fretful about putting themselves out there only to fail.

So the next time you are thinking about creating a helpful piece of content make time to connect to the emotion of your reader. Show them how to become the best blogger, at home chef, or awesome mom despite the struggles they are facing.

If you’re wondering if this will work, I say yes it will.

This type of content will work because:

  • Your advice will resonate on a deeper level.
  • You will get people to take action.
  • It is great for readers who may enjoy a little bit of personal development.
  • It will cause you to become more authentic as you share how you have overcome some of the same struggles your readers are facing while listing facts in your tutorials.

Conclusion

I love showing my readers how to come up with content. I like to think I am a great content strategist because I have tons of ideas. I hope this post will assist you in creating your best post ever. Remember, show you readers how to become the person they are aspiring to be. You know the way so show them.

Content strategy, how to create useful content.

People want to say blogging is dead because of vlogging or just Instagram influencing but its not dead. Blogging is a culture and its amazing. We are the new journalist and if anything happens to your favorite social media platform (such as Vine and Periscope) those things dont belong to you but your blog will always be yours. Great tips!

Thanks for the idea Katina. I hadn’t thought about it before, but most people probably want to “become” something. People love to watch actors on TV and in movies become their character. You choose mentors and coaches because you want to become someone who is successful.

You may have started a new blogging trend.

This is interesting advice. I think I’m pretty emotionally authentic on my blog but I don’t know that I reach readers on a personal development level…I don’t know if I am honestly qualified to do that, but maybe that’s just low self esteem and self doubt talking. I do want to make this logging thing work!!

Providing a great and useful content is the key to having a successful blog. People want to learn and gain knowledge and if the blog is full of articles that can make someone’s life easy then that blog is a winner.

Great advice! My blog is still fairly new, and in my Niche (Travel) there’s quite a lot of really well known bloggers – I try to not get caught up in numbers, and competing, but spend more time focusing on my content, my layouts and how I interact with readers. Seems to work for me so far <3

It’s really interesting that you researched your most popular post to see why it was so popular. It makes sense that showing your readers how to “become” something would be inspiring and generate attention. I think how-to posts are like that as well. I will use this advice in my brainstorming blog posts!
