Can you really schedule blog content for one year?
The notion seems so very far fetched.
I believe it is possible. Why? I recall being on a webinar where the instructor said that she schedules content for her social media for the entire year through her VA.
Obviously it works for her business. It is also an effecient way of never having to worry about posting. I am certain that the content is scheduled using a tool a month in advance. Since it is on the calendar she can have her VA batch the content and publish it according to the editorial calendar.
I want to be honest. I have always scheduled my posts a month in advance but never to the extent of covering the entire year. I have an idea of how I am going to do this and I am going to share my strategy in this post.
Schedule Blog Content According to the Holidays
The first step in scheduling blog content for an entire year is to create posts centered around major holidays. I recently wrote about monetizing your blog during the holidays. The holidays are the perfect time to create posts that generate income.
We have several major holidays in the United States. Here are some to consider:
- New Year
- Valentine’s Day
- St. Patrick Day
- Mother’s Day
- Father’s Day
- Memorial Day
- Labor Day
There are other holidays celebrated in the United States just check your calendar and schedule accordingly.
The best way to schedule blog posts that references holidays you should publish these posts at least 6 weeks in advance so you can promote them heavily. Why? People are searching for gift guides or roundup posts of product ideas. You also want to ensure your posts are in the search engines promptly if you already have an established blog.
I realize that every niche may not be able to write a post about Christmas or Halloween. However, these are days for your consideration.
Schedule Blog Content for a Year Using Themed Posts
Do you have a vision for your blog? Do you have goals you want to achieve? If so then it is imperative that you create a plan for your blog. One of the hardest things to do is to have a planner, start of with well intentions of sticking to your plan, but never do. Either you forget to plan or it becomes difficult.
I get it. My life is surrounded around planning. I have to plan lessons for homeschool for all three of my children. I also have to plan content for my blog. How good of a blogger would I be if didn’t plan or have an editorial calendar?
At the very least you can plan to publish content every week. You can plan your publish date, blog post title, keywords, or content upgrades (if applicable) with planner sheets that can be put into a planner. That equals 52 blog posts for the year.
If you prefer to publish every day or multiple times in a week you can fill out the planner sheets or use an editorial calendar.
Once you schedule those 52 blog posts and want to publish more you can use batching for the week to get ahead and put them on your calendar.
If it doesn’t get scheduled, it doesn’t get done. I know it is September and we have a few months to go in the year. I want to put a bug in your ear to start planning for your success as a blogger. The new year will be here before you know it.
